Planning a family vacation involving the kids can be one of the most maddening tasks and this is one sticky pie into which most parents don’t like to put their fingers! The reason is very simple. It’s the adults who make the decisions and plan a family vacation, without consulting the kids and the kids invariably end up disapproving of their choices.

The reason why the parents and the kids are at loggerheads over planning a family vacation is because the adults – since they are the bread winners, become guardians of all the decisions and they want to visit places they like, while the kids feel like they are just along for the ride.

Most parents don’t feel the need to consult their children and the kids are dragged along just for the sake of a “family” vacation. Naturally the kids don’t enjoy the trip much as their interests and favorite activities aren’t the same as that of their parents. These irreconcilable differences put a damper on the merrymaking and festivities.

That is why I am going to offer a few great ideas for family vacations which will indeed be enjoyed by the whole family – the adults and the kids alike and both will have a say on the matter of where the family will be headed for its vacation. The parents can still choose their preferred location, it is just necessary to ask the children what activity or activities they would like to do and schedule some time to do those activities. Older kids can even be given a day, or half day that they get to plan for the family. And when you involve the kids in this manner, they feel important, their self esteem receives a boost and they feel more confident and content with the vacation than before.

When you are planning a family vacation like this involving the kids, see to it that the vacation offers the best of all worlds to all parties involved. One of the best family vacations that you can take in the U.S. is to a beach, ocean or lake, it doesn’t matter.

The whole family can simply sit in the sun and bake themselves red on the beach. The adults can relax or read books or tan themselves in the sun soaking in the beauty. While the kids can play around on the beach and build sand castles. The parents can lend a hand in the building of sand castles or the whole family can go for a swim or a snorkeling session or other kinds of water activities.
